From black metal riffs to soothing post-apocalyptic lullabies, 2024 brought a wave of exceptional dark emotional music. Featuring Dödsrit, Hauntologist, Selbst, Hämnd, Sylvaine, Iress, Múr and De Mal En Pire.
De Mal En Pire - Sã Mo
The first 2 minutes describe exactly what you should expect from the rest of the album. Starts off with sludgy noises, develops into a classic black metal riff that culminates with a post-hardcore section. One of the best executed album statements.

Múr - Múr
Appeared from nowhere, yet released their fantastic debut album with Century Media. A modern and authentic fusion of post, progressive and atmospheric metal.

Iress - Sleep Now, In Reverse
Iress delivers a calm and approachable version of doomgaze with heavy accent on the emotional execution of the vocals.

Sylvaine - Eg Er Framand
Not your average Sylvaine release, as this is mainly a solo act. Personally, Eg Er Framand feels like a collection of lullabies from a post-apocalyptic world. Soothing yet slightly unsettling.

Hämnd - Eldhav
Quite a surprising debut. Long post metal tracks with excellent ebbs and flows, and a good amount of stylistic diversity.
For fans of: Cult of Luna, neander

Selbst - Despondency Chord Progressions
Intricate songwriting, but not overcomplicated. Great musicianship and vast stylistic influences, but deeply rooted in melodic black metal.

Hauntologist - Hollow
If there were no clean guitars and ambient parts, it could have easily ended up a Mgla release, and I would’ve been none the wiser. Goes to show how important Darkside’s drumming is to shaping the stylistic perception.
For fans of: Mgla, Kriegsmachine

Dödsrit - Nocturnal Will
Starts off with one of the most euphoric black metal parts out there, yet somehow it manages to occasionally successfully land in blackgaze territory.
